Lesson 2: Receiving The Holy Spirit
Did you know by receiving the Holy SpiritGod has given you a special gift?
THE HOLY SPIRIT IS A SPECIAL GIFT GIVEN TO ALL WHO ASK IN FAITH
If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him? Luke 11:13
We can all admit that the day we accepted Jesus Christ into our hearts and lord of our lives was a great experience, but for those receiving the Holy Spirit was also as memorable.
Before we proceed, a question many people ask, “Is there a difference between the Holy Spirit and the Holy Ghost?” The answer is “No.” The names are interchangeable.
In the fourteenth chapter of the book of John, Jesus was talking to His disciples before he went to be crucified about his leaving. As he spoke the disciples became heartbroken because Jesus was all they knew and didn’t know how they were ever going to make it without him.
Then in verse fourteen, Jesus says, “And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you forever;”
This Comforter who is the Holy Ghost also can be referred to as: 1. Counselor, 2. Helper, 3. Intercessor, 4. Advocate, 5. Strengthener and 6. Stanby.
What a wonderful gift from God!
A gift so wonderful that once you’ve received the Holy Spirit you can guarantee that your salvation is sealed, you belong to God and his spirit dwells in you. (Romans 8:9)
When you need guidance and direction, the Holy Spirit is there. The Holy Spirit gives the best advice.
Never should you find yourself confused and not knowing what to do. With the Holy Spirit dwelling on the inside of you, you should realize that because he is your present help (Ps. 46:1) there will never be a situation in which will defeat you.
The Holy Spirit is there to give you hope!
”Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.” Romans 15:13
Is being filled a one-time occurrence?
Answer:
No, as you live day to day, you must be continuously filled with the Holy Spirit. It is only by the filling of the Holy Spirit that power is made available.
Eph 5:18-20, urges us to be filled with the Spirit, by speaking in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in our hearts to the Lord and by always giving thanks for all things in the name of Jesus Christ.
When you begin to do these things the Holy Spirit has no other choice but to begin moving and working on your behalf.
When you begin to take hold and possess the power that is within you, you will be limitless and be able to withstand anything the devil tries to throw your way.
So by receiving the Holy Spirit you will be able to walk in the Spirit and not in the flesh. You will be able to exhibit the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:16:17) and have access to Gods wisdom and truth. (1 Corinthians 2:13)
