The Power of Prayer!

It’s a fact that the power of prayer can have a tremendous effect in one’s life. So why do many people spend very little time in prayer?

Often times many people allow what they have to do that day to overshadow their time in prayer.

Prayer should be the first thing we do before we start our day, but often it’s something which is done only if we remember, when we’re in trouble, have five minutes to spare or we’ve drifted away from the close relationship we used to have with the Lord.

When our prayer life decreases, Satan is very pleased. Satan is the author of distraction and there are so many things he has established, like the increased television watching, gossiping on the phone and going places in which we shouldn’t, that constantly distracts us from praying. Satan knows the power of prayer and if he can hinder you from doing it, he knows you cannot win the battle.

Prayer is something that should be consistent. Just like brushing your teeth, it should be a daily act in your life.

It's the power of prayer that will make situations be in your favor.

Jesus even shows us how important is it to take time to pray.

Matthew 14:23 says, “And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone.”

Now if Jesus, himself knew the importance of spending time in prayer, why don't we? He knew that there was power in prayer. When you pray daily, earnestly, while at the same time believing what you’ve prayed about will happen, God is pleased and your faith increases.

Matthew 17:20 says, “And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.”

  • What is prayer?

It is simply, talking and listening to God, while realizing that the solutions to our problems lie beyond our abilities. God is waiting to talk with us, but it’s up to us to initiate the conversation.

  • Why should I pray?

One terrible mistake many people make is that they believe since God already knows about our needs, then why should they have to tell Him about them or even share in prayer anything concerning them.

Understand, yes God does know all things, but He wants to hear from you. Change cannot happen until you first vocalize it.

  • When should I pray?

    Always!

1 Thessalonians 5:17 says, “Pray without ceasing.”

James 5:16b says, “The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.”

Understand, the power of prayer is a powerful force.

  • How do I pray?

Praying to God doesn’t evolve you having the best speech and grammar, but rather prayer is having a heartfelt conversation with God. God loves unconditionally and doesn’t care if your sentences are fragmented. He just wants to listen to you and respond to what you’ve said.

So just talk to Him as you would any good friend. That’s all prayer is, it’s a conversation.

  • What should I pray about?

You should pray about everything! And when you pray, be specific. General prayers are too vague and have a slower response time. Don’t just say, “Lord bless me,” but rather say something like, “Lord please bless me with a teaching position at Woodson Elementary.”

  • When you pray, you must trust and believe He has heard you.

1 John 5:14-15 says, “And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.”

  • What is praying in the Spirit?

Ephesians 6:18 says, “Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints.”

When you accepted Jesus as Lord of your life and the Holy Spirit began to reside within your spirit, the power of God took residence in you.

It’s this power that is set in motion by “speaking in unknown tongues,” which will begin to edify and build you up. It’s this power which will make angels stand at attention and become concerned about you.

Jude 1:20 says, “But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost.”

It’s this power that will enable you to be limitless, victorious and unstoppable.

So I urge you today, if praying daily hasn’t been a part of your life, please make today the first day you make having a time to pray a priority. Make today the first day you experience the power of prayer.
