Welcome to the Holy Spirit Bible Study

Welcome to a Holy Spirit Bible Study. I'm sure as you take you time and read each lesson you will learn more about the Holy Spirit. Who he is? What is his purpose? And if you haven't been filled with the Holy Spirit, how to become filled.

Many are unclear of the title and purpose of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is not a thing or it, but rather the third person of the Godhead. He is considered the last person to whom we are acquainted within the Trinity. And if you desire peace, joy, hope, true success, wholeness and happiness, you need to welcome the Holy Spirit into your life and draw closer to him.

”I will put my spirit within you and cause you to walk in my statutes, and you will keep my judgments and do them.” Ezekiel 36:27

Holy Spirit Bible Study Lesson 1: Who is the Holy Spirit

By the end of this Holy Spirit Bible Study lesson you will know and understand:

  • Who the Holy Spirit is

  • The many names in which the Holy Spirit is referred as

  • What is the role of the Holy Spirit?

Who is the Holy Spirit?

According to the Bible, the Holy Spirit has many names some of which are:

Comforter (John 14:16, 26; 15:26), Spirit of truth (John 14:17; 15:26), Spirit of wisdom (Isaiah 11:2; Ephesians 1:17), Spirit of knowledge (Isaiah 11:2) and Spirit of God (Genesis 1:2; 1 Corinthians 2:11; Job 33:4).

When Jesus returned to glory, he didn’t want to leave us here on Earth to live a life on our own, so the Holy Spirit was sent to continue to do everything Jesus would have done.

“Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.” John 16:7 KJV

Now here’s the same scripture from the New International Version

“But very truly I tell you, it is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you.” John 16:7 NIV

The Holy Spirit is the Comforter sent by Jesus who now dwells within you as a believer and goes everywhere you go to help lead and direct you.

“And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you forever; Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.” John 14:15-16

Wow, that’s great news!

So that means anytime a child of God calls on the name of Jesus, the Holy Spirit goes forth and springs into action on your behalf.

It is because Jesus loves us so much that he paid the ultimate price so we can now live in victory and be empowered just as he was.

“How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.” Acts 10:38 And it’s because of this same power believers are able to do greater works than were recorded in the Bible by Jesus. (John 14:12)

In order to have a life full of joy, peace, success and prosperity, understand you cannot achieve this on your own. You must have the Holy Spirit residing within you. You must be filled with the Holy Spirit.

But how do I become filled with the Holy Spirit?

One way is to have someone who has already received the fullness of the Spirit to lay hands on you. (Acts 19:6)

Another way is by simply asking in faith to be filled during prayer. (Luke 11:13)

Once you are filled with Spirit Ephesians 5:18-20 tells us how to stay filled:

  • Speaking to yourself in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs

  • By singing and making melody in our hearts to the Lord

  • Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of Jesus.

Now that you’re filled you must now bear the Fruit of the Spirit. (Galatians 5:22)

The more you are filled with the Holy Spirit and bear his fruits, the more you will be able to be all of what God has called you to be.

I hope you've enjoyed this Holy Spirit Bible Study. My prayer is that you've been enlighten to who the Holy Spirit is, why he was sent here and how to be filled if you haven't already been.

God has made so much power available to his children through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit within us. But it's up to us; his children to draw closer to him and begin to desire a more deeper connection to him.

As you read more of the Holy Spirit Bible Study Lessons you will learn how to recognize his voice and what having the Holy Spirit means to you as a believer.

It's through these Holy Spirit Bible Study Lessons that we as believers can grow into the knowledge and fullness of Jesus Christ and begin to realize all of what he has purposed for us as his children.
