Lord, I really need you to help me through the night.

Have you ever cried out, “God help me through the night?” Well, I have many times, and each time I did, God was always there for me. Each time, he dried my tears, reminded me of his love and helped me to have a peaceful nights rest. Please understand when we reach out to God, and cry out, “Lord, help me through the night, and each day,” he responds.

So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. All who rage against you will surely be ashamed and disgraced; those who oppose you will be as nothing and perish. Though you search for your enemies, you will not find them. Those who wage war against you will be as nothing at all. For I am the LORD your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you. Isaiah 41:10-13 NIV

Do you remember what Jesus experienced in Matthew 6:36-39? While Jesus was praying in a place called Gethsemane, he was exceeding sorrowful. He knew he would soon be killed. He fell to his face and cried out to his Father to let this cup pass from him. He prayed earnestly, “Father, help me through the night.”

But what stands out the most is that despite what his emotions were trying to convince him of and regardless of the anguish he was experiencing, he said, “Nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.”

How beautiful and selfless Jesus was.

Jesus is teaching us through his own pain and suffering that although we may be facing a hard time, we may be crying out to him to help me through the night, we may want to give up, we must trust God that he will work everything out for our good. (Romans 8:28)

And while trusting God, try not to complain, but rather pay attention to the lesson in which we should learn from the experience. God is allowing you to go through whatever it is to strengthen you.

Many times throughout my life I’ve had to trust God and stretch my faith. For instance only six months ago my faith muscles went into overdrive. It was then that after almost six years of marriage, I decided to leave my marriage. My husband was very controlling and abusive on all levels and I was just plain afraid of him. I remember very often crying out to God to help me through the night.

But, being that I hadn’t worked in almost two years, I didn’t know how I was going to get away or care for my two young children.

But God!

In the midst of my crying out to God to help me through the night, the Lord provided an escape; an apartment, food, clothes and finally a job. Yes, it was hard, but God never forgot about me nor reneged on his promises.

For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you. And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart. Jeremiah 29:11-13

God was with me guiding my every step and he will be with you as well. So let me encourage you, whatever it is that you may be going through, whatever it is that has you saying, “Lord, help me through the night, the day or this season.” Pray and give it to Jesus. Please don’t ever feel alone because Christ is with you. Begin to stand on his word and declare his promises back to him. Trust me Christ will surely stand by his word.

Here are a few scriptures to give you comfort during any hard time you may face. (Especially when you’re alone and you’re crying out to the Lord to help you through the night.)

  • Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God. For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also aboundeth by Christ. 2 Corinthians 1:3-5

  • And he said unto his disciples, Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat; neither for the body, what ye shall put on. The life is more than meat, and the body is more than raiment.

Consider the ravens: for they neither sow nor reap; which neither have storehouse nor barn; and God feedeth them: how much more are ye better than the fowls? And which of you with taking thought can add to his stature one cubit? If ye then be not able to do that thing which is least, why take ye thought for the rest?

Consider the lilies how they grow: they toil not, they spin not; and yet I say unto you, that Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. If then God so clothe the grass, which is to day in the field, and tomorrow is cast into the oven; how much more will he clothe you, O ye of little faith?

And seek not ye what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink, neither be ye of doubtful mind. For all these things do the nations of the world seek after: and your Father knoweth that ye have need of these things. But rather seek ye the kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added unto you.Luke 12:22-31

  • But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19

  • Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?

    26. Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they? 27. Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature? 28. And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: 29. And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 30. Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? 31. Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? 32. (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. 33. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. 34. Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.Matthew 6:25-34

My prayer is that you've been encouraged as you cry out to God with your voice and tears, "Lord, help me through the night." Know he has your back and your future in bright.
